I wouldn't consider myself to be super successful at business.

I mean, I make enough to support my modest lifestyle for now and although I would like to earn more, I am not concerned about becoming uber-rich.

However, as part of my interest in entrepreneurship, I listen to podcasts and like to read biographies of successful people, whether they are founders, actors, sports people, or politicians.

What I have found is that no matter what their vocation, there are some fundamental lifestyle choices that they all make which seem to play a role in their success.

Here are 5 of them.

1. Simplify

Whether marketing your new product or becoming the next NBA all-star, it is important to focus on one thing.

Have one idea and express it clearly.

Your product may have many features and benefits, but it is best to focus on ONE and share that with your target audience.

Likewise, you may like many sports or want to play many instruments, but if you want to be in the top 2% you need to focus on only one.

2. Take Action

You can have all the ideas and good intentions in the world. None of it means squat if you don’t actually do something.

Define your goal, make your plan, then take action.

Don’t wait for the perfect time to get started. That time will never come. Start now and make corrections along the way.

3. Be Consistent

Figure out the fundamental things you need to do repeatedly to succeed and do them consistently.

For an athlete, it may be the foundational drills.

For marketing, it may be making a certain number of cold calls daily.

For a content creator, it may be writing one article a day.

Whatever it is, do it repeatedly.

4. Be Persistent

Once you have the tasks you will be consistent with, be persistent. Don’t give up. It may take years before the payoff. It is those that stay in the game that rise to the top.

Most of the time you don’t have to be the best. You only have to outlast the rest.

5. Focus on Profit

This final point is about adopting a business mindset towards money to generate personal wealth.

To grow a profitable business you need to minimize costs and invest the profits.

Apply this to your paycheck and lifestyle choices. Instead of buying that toy you don’t need, invest the money and let it compound.
