I’m No Motivator, But Here is My (Not Very) Motivational Speech

Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy.

And depending on your environment and lifestyle, keeping fit and healthy can be challenging too.

I refer to these two subjects because they are probably the two things people most ask me for advice about.

Apart from general advice, when people do talk to me about either of these things, often the question comes up of how to stay motivated.

I’ll be the first to admit I am not the most motivational person out there. I’m much more of the “here’s the information, do with it what you will” type of person. I guess I just don’t really get it. If you want to do something, just do it.

Sometimes people tell me they don’t have the time, but that’s ridiculous.

I’ve met numerous single mums that have time to go to the gym and start a side hustle. Yes, it is hard, but they get it done.

Also, what about all those super achievers such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oprah Winfrey, or the hundreds, if not thousands of tech-entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. You think you do more than them?

Not likely…

I sure as hell don’t and I still find time to exercise and move forward.

And to be honest, when it comes to keeping healthy, you don’t have time not to.

Taking the time to exercise, get enough sleep, eat well and meditate a little pays off in dividends. Not only will you literally live longer, but your brain functions better, which means you can get more done in less time.

Taking care of your personal health and wellness is the best nootropic there is. No other comes close.

Look, I know it can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.

Start small. Do one thing every day to move you closer to your goal, whatever that goal may be.

Then when you are ready, add another daily thing. Before you know it, you will gain speed on the highway to your dreams.

You are literally stacking habits.

And if you really don’t have time, then just stick with one thing a day. Choose a foundational act to do every day to move you toward your goal, such as writing a blog post, doing a 30-minute workout, or completing 10 minutes of Duolingo.

Almost any realistic goal you are aiming for can be achieved in this way.

Obviously, the more you do the faster it will be, but there is nothing wrong with slow and steady.

The main thing is to be persistent.

Slow and steady beats nothing 100% of the time!

If you try and fail, at the very least you will have learned something. And if you keep trying there is always the chance you will make it, and the odds increase in your favor as you learn more and gain experience.

But if you don’t try at all, or you give up, then you will definitely not achieve whatever it is you want to achieve.
