The longest multi-day hike I have ever done was the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia.
I did it with a friend I had studied outdoor leadership with. It took us 7 weeks.
We did it back in 2008, so my memory is fuzzy. The one thing I do remember is the diverse terrain we covered. From dunes to outback bush to coastlines and more.
Every now and again we would trek along the coastline of Southwestern Australia. It looked amazing but I remember the wind and the sand getting everywhere.
One of the many amazing sunsets. Western Australia has awesome sunsets. Some of the best I have ever seen in the entire world. This photo does not do them justice.
Every few days, we would hike through a town, pick up supplies, and perhaps even sleep in a real bed if we felt like spoiling ourselves. We also encountered the local wildlife; this particular town had quite a few wild emus and kangaroos just chilling in the streets.
Here is a typical campsite. We met a lovely older couple along the way and ended up hiking with them for a good chunk of the journey. Their affectionate nicknames were Bear and Fox.
Here is my hiking buddy as she crosses some rocky terrain. I think on average we carried about 15 kg worth of stuff which included up to 9 days of food.
We had to do a few river crossings along the way, but I think this photo is just us having a dip in the river.
Iām not into hiking nearly as much as I used to be, though I do still enjoy it. These days I much prefer day hikes and then heading back to the hotel for the night.
I guess Iām valuing comfort more as I get older.
