Apart from the United Kingdom, the only place in Europe I have been to is Croatia.
I went with my Japanese girlfriend at the time, and a couple of old friends I used to work with at summer camp.
I can’t remember exactly how long we spent there, maybe three weeks. I feel I saw a fair bit of the country and really enjoyed it.
Here is the train going to Bizovac. I think there were supposed to be hot springs there, but we never found them.
The sea cliffs in Dubrovnik. I believe this photo was taken from the Dubrovnik walls, looking down onto a bar overlooking the sea cliffs.
Dubrovnik is where a lot of ‘Game of Thrones’ was filmed.
My favorite place in Croatia was Makarska. We went there on a whim, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. There was hiking, beaches, a club in a cave, and this “secret” beach.
Another highlight of Croatia is Plitvice National Park where there are a lot of scenic views of waterfalls and lakes.
The foreshore at night in Split, another pretty little city.
The market in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. There are similar markets in other cities that we visited, such as Rijeka and Osijek.
Many people find it hard to believe that after so many years of travel, I have never really seen Europe. But I loved Croatia, so I’m hoping to change that from now on, starting with Greece after camp this year.
