It’s been a hot minute since I was last in England.
I took advantage of a working holiday visa about 10 years ago.
This year I went as a stopover before heading to Greece, and visited my cousin for a few days. I also managed to catch up with a few old camp friends while I was there.
Although I lived in England for a couple of years, this is actually the most time I’ve ever spent in the London area, and, to be honest, I didn’t do much. The purpose of the visit was to hang out with my cousin, so I really only spent a few hours wandering in the city.
I did a bad job of recording what I was taking photos of, but luckily Google photo recognition is awesome so at least I know what’s what.
I didn’t need any help with this one. It’s Buckingham Palace.
I didn’t need any help with this one either. To the left is the London Eye and to the right is Big Ben. I think Big Ben is my favorite point of interest in London, though I’ve only seen it from afar.
Okay, these last three photos are when I needed help from Google. This is Nelson's Column, which commemorates Britain's triumph over France.
St. Paul's Cathedral is where Prince Charles and Princess Diana were married. Apparently there’s a lot of good art in there.
Finally, this is the Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House. Somerset House was the official residence of the Queen of England back in the 1600s.
I’m not sure when I’ll go to England again. Perhaps as soon as a year from now, if I go to camp and want to see some more of Europe.
I do want to explore more of Europe over the next few years, and it is always nice to catch up with friends and family, so we'll just see what happens.
