The last time I was in Mazatlan was about two or three years ago.
I went there while traveling in Mexico specifically to see an old family friend whom I’ll refer to as mi Tío, and a few days ago I returned for the same reason.
The last time I was there I stayed for a month. This time around was only for a few days and I didn’t take any photos, so all of these are from the last time I visited.
This is from the top of the lighthouse. It’s about a 30 minute hike up and you are rewarded with a decent view. This is basically the only tourist thing I did while in Mazatlan this time around, and we had done it last time also.
I actually don’t think it is that great but it’s an outdoor activity close to town.
A shot of the beach taken from Isla de Piedra, or stone rock in English.
Mi Tío had some family there I think, or at least some old friends. We walked around, spent some time at his friend's house, ate some lunch and then took the short boat ride back to the mainland.
I can’t remember the name of this place, but it is a small island within kayaking distance of the mainland. It was a pretty cool little place and now that I think about it, one of my favorite excursions while in Mazatlan.
The first time I went to Mazatlan I stayed in the Historic Center. I’m pretty sure this is taken there.
This time around I stayed in the Golden Zone, which is more of a party vibe. I also happened to come during motorcycle week so it was very noisy.
Next time I come I’ll get a place in the Historic Center again.
Can’t really put up a post from a city on the coast of Mexico without including a sunset shot.
I imagine this is taken from somewhere along the famous malecon which is one of the longest waterfront promenades in the world.
An impressive 21 kilometers!
My Mazatlan visit was an extended layover on my way to North Carolina from Santa Marta, where I’ll be staying for the next several months.
