North Carolina might be the place I’ve visited the most times.
In fact, over the last 4 years, I have probably spent more time there than any single place in the world.
This is due to a summer camp I work at in the area where I spend anywhere from 2 to 5 months at a time.
Anyway, here are some photos from my latest visit, which spanned from mid May to early August.
On the way back from a trip to Lowe’s we saw this baby deer with a broken leg in the middle of the road so we scooped him up and gave him to a rescue place.
Last I heard he, or she, healed up fine and is in good health.
This is the lake at camp with all the inflatables and a boat we built for the color war opening ceremony.
Color war is basically a day of competitions for the campers.
On one of our days off we went for a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think this looks back on Potato Rock.
A couple of times during the summer we put on a fireworks display. Here is what fireworks look like from the point of view of someone who lights them.
Visiting one of the lakes in the nearby national parks is a popular day-off activity for the staff.
I think this is Looking Glass Falls. North Carolina is famous for all its waterfalls.
Here is another waterfall. I think this one is called Triple Falls.
For me, summer camp can be an emotional roller coaster. Every time I go there it seems to ruin a relationship, while at the same time forging new ones.
There is no doubt that it holds a very special place in my heart. I definitely consider it a second home, or even a first one since I don’t really have anywhere I call home.
Although I do love it, due to the uncertainty of life circumstances, I never really know if I will return each year. This year, however, I aim to make my decision earlier than usual. Hopefully I will know by October.
