The Philippines is one of my favorite countries.

In fact, I nearly married a Filipina and was going to live there permanently.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as planned, and as I learned in Santa Marta, I am not one for staying in one place for too long.

Well, not at the moment anyway.

Perhaps in the future I will change my mind. When that time comes, I will definitely reconsider the Philippines.

So why do I like the Philippines so much?

I love the laid-back culture (once you get out of the cities), the islands, the beaches, the people, and the food isn’t too bad either. Also, it is really cheap to live there, and technically, English is one of their official languages. Though knowing some Tagalog or Cebuano goes a long way.

Anyway, it’s hard to describe the beauty of the Philippines, so I’ll let the photos do the talking.

1 Rodadero

The first time I went to the Philippines, I went to Moalboal to learn Arnis - Filipino Stick Fighting. Turns out, the guy teaching it was an Australian, and although it was stick fighting, it was also a mixture of a bunch of other martial arts. After learning what he had to teach, we named it Vortex Control Self-Defense and I wrote a training manual on it.

You can get it here.

Anyway, Moalboal is still one of my favorite places in the Philippines, and I also learned to dive there.

2 Taganga

This is Cangkalanog Falls in Siquijor. Siquijor is famous for being a Voodoo island, but there is nothing scary about it. It’s good for a night or two.

3 Sunset

Bohol is another really cool spot where I would potentially live. I had a really cool Japanese girlfriend at the time, and we spent a couple of weeks there.

Like many places in the Philippines, it has lots of the things I like. Waterfalls, beaches, and a very laid back vibe.

The Philippines also has many stray dogs.

4 Tayrona

I forget what this is called, but it is a very tranquil place to ride a motorbike through. Also in Bohol.

4 Tayrona

This is one of the lakes from Twin Lakes in Tagaytay. We didn’t swim here, but it was a nice hike.

I have been to a bunch more places in the Philippines. There is so much to see there but I wasn’t, and still am not, much of a photo taker. I will definitely go back there one day and will try to take more, and better, photos.
