The first time I went to the United States was in 2008 when I worked at a summer camp in North Carolina.
I skipped 2009 but then went back to the same summer camp four more times. Each year I went back I did some travel around the states so I’ve actually seen quite a lot of it.
After 2013 I took an 8 year hiatus, then during Covid they were very short staffed and I just happened to be in Colombia at the time, so I went back in 2021 and have returned each year since.
One year we took some campers to Atlanta and saw a professional baseball game. I’m not a fan of baseball or any team sports really, but it was a nice cultural experience.
I’ve seen wild black bears at camp several times. It’s quite a sight. This photo, however, was taken at a park where they have bears in captivity. I find this kind of thing quite sad these days, but I guess I didn’t mind it so much in 2008.
A view from Chimney Rock in North Carolina.
This is the Grand Canyon taken in 2010. Phone cameras weren’t that great back then.
One of the lakes at camp on a misty morning. This is possibly the very first photo I ever took at camp. I remember it feeling very surreal watching the sunrise and the mist and I fell in love with the place from that day forward.
I had a girlfriend living in Phoenix. This was taken during one of our day trips to the desert.
North Carolina is known for being the land of waterfalls. This is one of them. I think it is called Looking Glass Falls.
The United States is a big land with lots to see, but I haven't traveled around it much since I’ve been coming back. I do still enjoy working at the camp though. I have made some of my best friends here and it really is a second home.
Actually, over the past 4 years I’ve spent more time at the camp than anywhere else, so I guess it is my first home.
