The Message Game Summary: Chapter 8 - How Long Should You Wait?

How quickly you respond to a girl’s message can reveal a lot about you.

Too fast and you will seem desperate, but too long and you could mess up time-sensitive meetings.

So the question is, how long should you wait?

As a very loose general rule, wait at least 150% of the time she takes to respond to you.

Of course, if she didn’t reply to you for weeks, months or years, then you don’t want to wait that long to respond. In this case, responding after a day or so is fine.

In general, you should not message a girl back immediately if she takes more than two minutes to respond to your message.

There are, however, several instances when it would be fine to respond very quickly.

If you are meeting and trying to find each other at that moment, then replying quickly is necessary.

Also, when you get a match on a dating app, you can message straight away. Don’t ever rely on the girl to send the first message. Most girls do not send the first message.

When you message a girl and she responds immediately, you can respond immediately back. This is because you are having a conversation.

When a girl messages you out of the blue, then your response time isn’t important. You can reply in a few minutes or a few hours, unless it is a time-sensitive issue.

When it is a time-sensitive issue you need to respond in a timely manner.

For example, if she is confirming a meeting time of 1 pm, then you should reply so that she has enough time to get ready and meet you. Give her at least an hour plus the time it would take to travel to the meeting place.

When you have been waiting for a reply and her reply comes at night, unless you are going to meet that night, wait until the next morning to respond.

If she responds in the morning, you can message her the same morning. The idea is that you have the day to arrange to meet.

When a girl is very unresponsive, move onto the next girl.

If, however, she says something like “I’m busy for the next few days,” wait a few days and then message her.

Do not ask her why she is not responding or why she takes a long time to respond. That is needy behavior.
