Not to brag…

But I definitely look younger than I am.

Sometimes when asked, people say I look up to 10 years younger than my real age.

A lot of this has to do with my skin. For my age, I have pretty good skin. I probably owe some of this to genetics, maybe about 20%.

And maybe another 20% of the reason is my skincare routine, which as you will soon discover, is very simple. But before I get into that, let’s take a look at the main reason I have good skin.

The Big 4.

The Big 4 refers to the principal pillars of health you must tend to because healthy skin starts from within.

Here they are with the most important guidelines in relation to good skin.

  • Sleep. Get enough of it. Around 8 hours each night. While you sleep your body repairs itself and sheds old cells.
  • Nutrition. What you put in your body will show on the outside. Eat clean, fresh foods with minimal sugar and oil. Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Avoid ultra-processed foods.
  • Exercise. Do something that makes you sweat every day. This cleans out your pores.
  • Stress management. In some people, stress can cause breakouts. Getting enough sleep, eating healthily, and exercising daily will naturally help lower your stress levels. Additionally, meditate daily.

Okay, now for my skin routine. It is very simple. I don’t use any fancy skin creams; in fact, most of those are toxic and do more harm than good.

I shower with soap once a day. Using soap too often sheds your skin of natural oils. I use Dr. Bronner's Castile baby soap.

For moisturizer on my body, I use 100 percent cold-pressed organic coconut oil.

On my face, I use 100 percent sweet almond oil.

And that’s it.

Now I know many people are attached to their skin care routines. I get it. It’s a ritual. Also, everyone’s skin is different. However, at the very least you should reassess the products you use.

As I mentioned before, many are toxic and do more harm than good.

There is a great free app called Yuka. It scans the barcode of your personal care products and gives them a score out of 100. If your product scores badly, it will also give you better alternatives. This app also works on many food items.
