Listening to podcasts is one of my favorite pastimes.
I love it because it allows me to learn about my other interests while I do other things, such as cooking or exercising.
The problem is that I have limited time to listen to everything I want to, so I limit myself to a handful of shows.
In no particular order, here are my five favorite podcasts.
I think this originally started as an interview show, where the hosts would interview successful entrepreneurs on how they made their first million dollars.
It has evolved a lot since. They still do interviews but also cover all sorts of subjects related to entrepreneurship.
Out of all the podcasts I listen to, I like the vibe of these two hosts the best.
Most episodes are about an hour or less.
On the Founders podcast, the host summarizes biographies from successful entrepreneurs. Occasionally there are biographies of non-entrepreneurs also, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I used to enjoy reading biographies, but there were many that I would get halfway through and then move on. This podcast saves me from doing that. What would take me 10 hours to read I now get the gist of in 40-ish minutes.
Occasionally an episode will pique my interest enough where I will want to read the whole biography myself.
In Acquired, the two hosts break down the history and possible futures of the world’s greatest businesses.
I don't plan on building a massive corporation, and I’m not a sophisticated investor, so most of the lessons gleaned don’t apply to me. However, I find learning the history of the companies really interesting.
This is a long-form podcast with episodes lasting anywhere from two to four hours.
Self-publishing is how I currently make money, so it is good to keep in the loop.
I tried a few different self-publishing podcasts and found I liked the style of this one best. Dale keeps me up to date with the latest news in self-publishing as well as marketing tips and tool reviews.
Most episodes are under 30 minutes.
This is a podcast about homesteading which I have only very recently added to my list.
I don’t own a homestead yet, but it has been a dream of mine. I’ve always thought that when I decide to settle down I would love to have a self-sustainable property with chickens, goats, and renewable energy sources.
Episodes are generally under an hour.
Actually, this one might change as I am still considering which of the two podcasts I like the best. The other contender is Pantry Chat.
There are several other podcasts that I check in once in a while to see if there is an episode that piques my interest.
The first is the Huberman Lab which I used to listen to a lot when I was creating the Stack Healthy Habits program.
I don’t listen to this nearly as much as I used to since I’m now quite knowledgeable on the foundations and not super interested in the deep science of it all. Also, Dr. Huberman is bringing out his book ‘Protocols’ which I figure is all I will need going forward.
The Tim Ferriss Show is another long-form podcast that I used to listen to religiously. These days, I only listen to the interviews that really appeal to me.
Marketing Secrets with Russell Brunson might be the first podcast I ever listened to. It has since evolved into a longer form podcast including interviews and monologues on all things internet marketing. I figure My First Million has me covered with marketing and the foundations of good business.
Finally, the Noah Kagan Show is quite good. To me, it is on par with My First Million. I guess I just like My First Million a little better.
