The rule of 100 is something that I learned from Noah Kagan in his book “Million Dollar Weekend.”
Simply stated, when you are trying out something new, do it at least 100 times before giving up on it.
This advice isn’t new. It is just presented in a different way.
I’ve also heard it from Russel Brunson. His version is to do something for a year, such as posting every day for a year, or doing a live webinar every week for a year.
As you may have guessed, the underlying advice is simply about persistence. That is, don’t give up, at least not too soon.
This is something I have to remind myself of every now and then.
Most recently, we have been producing coloring books using AI. My aim is to make 100 adult coloring books and 100 kids’ coloring books.
So far, we have published about 25 adult ones, but sales are not that great. It was suggested that we should give up on it, and initially I agreed, but then I thought about it and remembered the rule of 100.
Perhaps nothing will come of it, but it won’t be a waste of time and money. At the very least, we are getting in the reps of publishing many books.
Also, there is the idea of just putting stuff out until something hits. We have to keep experimenting and trying new things. The majority of income for the business at the moment comes from just two or three books, but it took me publishing at least 10 before the first one took off.
I guess this plays into the 80/20 rule.
We may not see the payoff now, but in a year or so from now, with 200 coloring books out in the world, there is bound to be some organic traction.
I guess the overall takeaway from this is the following:
